Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (P) Sultan Abu Bakar, Muar or better known as Sultan Abu Bakar Secondary Girl School was established in 1939. This school is one of the oldest schools in Muar, Johor. The school's Heritage Building, which is located in Block A, was completed in 1939 and was inaugurated by the Superintendent of Education, Tuan F. I. Shaw. The name of this school is taken in conjunction with the name of the first Sultan of Johor Modern, Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar ibni Almarhum Raja Temenggung Tun Daeng Ibrahim from Wangsa Temenggung. The school has been recognized as a school in the list of Phase 6 Excellence Cluster Schools for the secondary school category. The school also has a dormitory for selected students.
