The National Mosque is the main mosque in Malaysia , located in Kuala Lumpur . This mosque was built in 1963 and inaugurated on August 27, 1965 . This mosque is a symbol of the majesty of Islam as the official religion in Malaysia and is a symbol for the newly formed Malaysia at that time. This mosque can also accommodate up to 15,000 pilgrims.

The design and supervision of this building was done by a team of 3 architects from the Design and Research Division, Federal Public Works Department - architect Hisham Albakri, Howard Ashley (from the United Kingdom) and Dato Baharuddin Kassim. It took them three years to complete it. Before starting the work of designing this National Mosque, the main architect, Baharuddin Abu Kassim, studied mosques in India , Pakistan , Iran , Turkey , Saudi Arabia , the United Arab Republic and Spain .
