Overview

The Mahmoodi Mosque was built around 1930 on lot 401 of Bandar Bachok mukim with an area of 52,672 square feet. For the initial stage, this mosque was built of wood, measuring approximately 20x40 feet. The Mahmoodi Bachok Mosque was first built with a stone building in 1936, which is during the time of Dato' Prime Minister His Majesty, Haji Nik Mahmood bin Ismail. The original building was built with six pillars as a symbolic pillar of faith.

In 2008, this mosque again underwent a second addition, this time on the south side of the mosque, also with the same size of 20 x 100 feet. This additional building was completed in early 2010.

The Mahmoodi Mosque which is located on the edge of Bachok Beach, is now the focus of the community, not only local residents but also visitors to Irama Bachok Beach which is located right in front of the mosque.

Now, this mosque has received two additional buildings. The first addition in 1983, involved the women's congregation space. While the second addition was in 2005, involving space for the male congregation. The official opening of the completed Mahmudi Mosque was done in 1938 by His Royal Highness Al-Marhum Sultan Ismail. The name of the mosque is taken from the name of Dato' Prime Minister (Chief Minister) at that time, namely Dato' Hj Nik Mahmood bin Ismail. The current Beduk Besar Mosque was taken and moved from the Madrasah of Kampung Surau which is located on the side of the road between Kampung Nakhoda Saamah and Kampung Sungai.

Because the congregation members of the Mahmoodi Mosque are increasing and the mosque building is getting narrower, then an additional building had to be built on the north side of the mosque, measuring approximately 20x100 feet. This additional building was officially opened by HM Sultan Ismail Petra on 1 Syaaban 1403 corresponding to 14 March 1983.
