The foundation stone laying ceremony of this mosque was completed by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the Prime Minister on 7 Safar 1389 Hijri corresponding to 25 April 1969 AD.
This mosque is located in the center of Tanah Merah. It was built in 1970 and officially opened to the public by YTM Tengku Ismail Petra Ibni Al-Sultan Yahya Petra on 17 May 1970. After that it underwent renovations, including the construction of two separate prayer halls and two pulpits. These two pulpits are made of carved stone and in different shapes. Each prayer hall can accommodate up to 2,300 members of the congregation. The grounds of this mosque are decorated with a pleasant landscape. The total area of this mosque is approximately 6 acres.
This mosque contains four small towers, one large tower and three domes. There is also a main pillared prayer room with each pillar having a cupboard shelf to store the Al-Quran and religious books or books for the congregation's reading material. This mosque is square shaped. On the wall of the mosque there is beautiful calligraphy as one of the unique signs of this mosque.
This mosque provides an office to carry out its administrative affairs. In addition, there is also a meeting room that is used as a meeting place for the mosque committee. Imam and bilal rooms are also provided, besides there is an open hall for various social activities and a place to break the fast during the month of Ramadan.
