Overview
Al-Hussain Mosque, Kuala Perlis is a floating mosque built near Kuala Perlis Jetty, Kuala Perlis, Perlis, Malaysia. This mosque has been built on the beach of Kuala Perlis facing the Malacca Strait. It was built thanks to the contribution of a businessman, Tan Sri Mohd. Ariffin Yusuf and opened last August 8. The current Imam of Al-Hussain Mosque is Mohammad Dhiya'al Hafidh Fatah Yasin.
Al-Hussain Mosque, Kuala Perlis took four (4) years to complete at a cost of approximately RM 12 million. Part of its construction leads to the sea of the Malacca Strait.
A modern tropical resort is the architectural theme highlighted through the artistic touch of the mosque. The concept has been translated on the site and the relaxed atmosphere through the mosque's environment.
Interestingly, the Mosque that has become the new icon of Kuala Perlis was inspired by the Young Raja of Perlis, namely Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Syed Sirajuddin Jamalulail.
Ariffin's brother, Datuk Dr. Mohd. Hussain died in 1999 before he could fulfill his wish to build a mosque. Because of that, after it was completed, the mosque was named after his brother. In order to create a natural touch that is adapted from the environmental factors of the beach and the ocean, the walls of the mosque are not painted but instead simply use stones such as coral, quartz, granite, marble and pebbles.
A waqf was established in the mosque square. Pilgrims and visitors can also relax along the wall while facing the sea. Three palm tree trunks specially brought from Arabia inject West Asian elements into the mosque grounds.
The main external feature of the Al-Hussain Mosque is its golden yellow dome with a blue motif that is synonymous with the official color of the state of Perlis.
